COACHES AND VOLUNTEERS
We are a volunteer-run organization and would love to have you help through volunteerism and coaching! If you wish to help as a coach or volunteer, please register so we can reach out and make sure you follow all the required steps.
Coaches
Coaches must complete annual USA Hockey Coach Registration, a USA Hockey Background Check (every two years), USA Hockey SafeSport Training annually, and complete the appropriate age module (once per age group) for the players they will be working with before starting. Further coaching education is required on an ongoing basis.
Interested coaches should reach out to our Coaching Director at coach.jrroadrunners@gmail.com.
Volunteers
Several volunteer opportunities are available, and the requirements vary depending on the position.
Positions Include but are not limited to:
-Locker Room Monitors
-Fundraising Helpers (50/50 at UA or Roadrunner games)
-Boards Setup Helpers (for 8U/LTS)
-Equipment Managers
If you have a skill set not listed but you think we may need, reach out to us on Crossbar or at tucsonicehockey@gmail.com!
Frequently Asked Questions
What is required for coaches?
In addition to the USA Hockey Requirements above, coaches need basic skating ability, good communication skills (especially with kids), and must have skates, a helmet, hockey gloves, and a hockey stick.
Can older youth players help coach younger kids?
Yes! The requirements differ, but we do welcome junior coaches. Coaches under 18 do not need to complete SafeSport training or background screening. Coaches under 18 need to wear facial and neck protection while coaching in addition to the requirements for adult coaches.
